What animals symbolize on Tarot cards?
Have you ever wondered what animals symbolize on Tarot cards?
It’s interesting. Tarot cards are all about people, so why do we see images of a dog, a horse, a wolf, or a lion?
Humans are complex beings. We have both a spiritual side and an animalistic side. Our job is to learn to manage this animalistic part, to recognize, understand, and use it to our advantage.
The animal side represents our instincts, primal urges, and fears.
On the Fool card, there’s a little dog happily running alongside its owner. It’s a simple symbol that acknowledges this part of us.
On the Strength card, however, a gentle woman is taming a lion.
The card is called STRENGTH for a reason. It represents our inner strength, the power of our spiritual side that can tame our inner wildness and channel that energy for our purposes.
But we shouldn’t suppress this “beast”. Instead, we should accept it as it is and recognize it within ourselves!
As the famous Carl Jung once said: “Merely suppressing your shadow won’t save you from sin any more than a guillotine will cure a headache”.
That’s the essence of the Strength card in the Major Arcana. A tamed beast gives us vitality, the power of passion, and the joy of living.
On the Sun card, a child effortlessly controls a horse. This symbolizes the complete perception of oneself, with every part of us working in harmony.
The Tarot is truly beautiful, with no superfluous elements present in any of the cards! Each one tells a story about us and for us, if only we know how to read and understand the messages that these wonderful images convey!
